I love African clothes and it reflects my African roots<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n

Growing up in Nigeria, a lot of people called me “Oyibo” which means white man, owing to my light skin tone and also the way I communicated with fluency in English Language.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Nevertheless, my parents always made sure that I knew about my culture and traditions. I tried learning how to sew when I was really young, because I love African clothes and it reflects my African roots. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

When I became a real estate agent, like most real estate professionals I wore a suit, following the “norm” with a lot of discomfort till I decided to discontinue this unspoken tradition, moving forward by wearing African attire instead of suits.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Being authentic is more important<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n

<\/p>\n\n\n\n

At first, I was nervous about how my colleagues and clients would react. I know that some people might see my clothing as unprofessional or inappropriate. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

I’m unbothered by this, knowing that my authentic self is more important than any dress code and that my clients would appreciate my individuality and cultural pride.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Moving forward it is the realisation that authenticity is the key to connecting with people on a deeper level and that my clothing will help me stand out in a sea of suits. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Now, I feel confident and empowered every time I put on my African attire. I know that I’m representing myself, my culture, and my clients in a way that’s true to who I am. And I know that I’m helping to break down the barriers that exist in the real estate industry, one colourful outfit at a time.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
